CLNkids Homeless Shelter Members Receive Routine Cleaning and Learn About Oral Health

On August 25, 2017, Dr. McGee of the Albuquerque chapter of PSAM had the honor of supervising dental hygiene students from Pima Medical Institute giving routine dental exams and an educational presentation on the importance of oral hygiene to the kids at CLNkids. CLNkids is an incredible non-profit organization that has been dedicated to serving the needs of homeless children in the Albuquerque community for over 25 years. Homelessness and oral health issues are on the rise in New Mexico, and the Albuquerque chapter of PSAM is fighting to make a difference one mouth at a time. Inadequate nutrition and unreliable food sources can not only negatively affect a person’s oral health, but can also lead to health problems throughout their entire body. With over 22,463 people under the age of 18 and more than 2,000 children under the age of 6 living in unstable housing conditions in New Mexico alone, their mission is to impact as many children and families as possible.
